A Quilt for Christmas by Melody Carlson

It’s Christmas and Vera Swanson is spending it alone. A widow, Vera relocated to Oregon to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She didn’t expect her daughter’s family to move almost as soon as she unpacked her suitcase. Vera’s life takes a sudden turn when a little girl knocks on her door. Fiona Albright needs help. Her mother ill and her father out of town for work, Fiona has no one to turn to. When Fiona discovers Vera quilts, she pleads for Vera to make her mother a Christmas quilt. But quilts take time to sew and Vera cannot do it on her own, at least not in time for the holidays. In response, Vera places fliers around town, bringing together a motley collection of women to make the gift. There is Tasha, who has an eye for color and Beverly, enthusiastic but unskilled in quilting and Eleanor, whose bleak outlook on life seeps into all her relationships. Between the four of them they hope to make the holidays brighter for the Albright family. Little do the women realize they are making for themselves a new family of friends at the same time.
