New fiction
“Fire and Bones,” by Kathy Reichs. Only a really interesting case could draw Tempe from her vacation in Savannah with her main squeeze, Andrew Ryan. Arriving in Washington, D.C. is asking to take a look at the victims of a house fire, which police think is a case of arson. The home in question, an illegal Airbnb, is located in Foggy Bottom, a Washington neighborhood with a long history of shady dealings, and back in the 1930s and 1940s was the hangout of bootleggers and swindlers. They were known as the Foggy Bottom Gang and initially Tempe thinks this bit of information is nothing more than trivia. Then the son of one of the gang members is found dead at his Virginia home. Soon after, another Foggy Bottom Gang-linked property goes up in flames. What happened at these buildings that someone must turn them into ash and dust? And will Tempe be that someone’s next target?
