“Christmas in Bethel,” by Richard Paul Evans. It’s the Christmas season and Leigh Beth Stilton has hit rock bottom. Life has always been difficult for Leigh – an alcoholic mother and absent father, an abusive spouse and working as an EMT and always being able to save a life. Put together, it’s no wonder Leigh’s emotional and mental health is in the dumpster. In fact, Leigh is thinking of ending her life. But then she comes across a book entitled, “Bethel” and written by a man named J.D. Harper. The book has Leigh feeling, for once in her life, seen and understood. It’s enough to give her hope to carry on. When a twist of fate has the author in town for a book signing Leigh vows to go. A chance meeting at a coffee shop has the two hitting it off and spending their days traveling, talking and falling in love. J.D. is smart, funny and kind. So much so Leigh wonders if he’s the real deal. Having been beaten down so many times by life Leigh is not sure she has the courage to give her heart away. When Leigh finds out J.D. hasn’t been completely honest with her, she is ready to run. Can this young couple find their way back to each other and give love another chance?
